Leona Della Hovenden, of Eagle, Idaho, passed away peacefully in her home,

September 6th, 2015.

Leona was born May 24, 1923, in Walhalla, ND, to Fred and Julliette

the next years working in Minneapolis before moving on to Tacoma,

Washington.  She married Eldon Dean, and her pride and joy, son Dennis,

was born October 21, 1946.

Leona and Dennis chose Idaho as their home, moving there around 1956.

the next nine years traveling the South Pacific. She divided her time

between Idaho and her job during those years, while Dennis spent time

with her in California and attended school at Bishop Kelly.

After retiring from Matson around 1965, Leona stayed in Idaho, working

as a Catering Planner at the Downtowner Motel and Convention Center.  One day, Mr.

R. Hovenden walked into Leona’s place of work to hire her crew for a special  

function for the Idaho Cattle Association.  After a short courtship, Leona and Tom married

at St John’s Cathedral on November 3, 1967.  Leona and Tom opened up

three Merle Norman cosmetic stores,  which Leona  managed very

successfully for the next 10 years.

Tom and Leona had 21 fun years of married life before Tom passed away

December 28, 1988. After a few years living the Arizona life, Leona returned to her beloved

Idaho.

Leona’s fun spirit and joy endeared her to her friends and relatives.

Her strong work ethic and devotion to any project she took on was an

inspiration to all. She will be missed!

Leona is survived by her two grandchildren Lindsay M. Dean and Shane E. Dean, along with her great granddaughter, Harper; Four brothers, Leo Verville, Raymond Verville, Wayne Verville, and Gary Verville.  She also has  six surviving sisters, Ella Corbit, Jean Corbit, Ida Mae Campbell, Donna Clairmont, Marjorie Johnson, and Deloria Longtin.
