Leona Catherine Connell, age 90, passed away peacefully at her Boise home on August 22, 2010. Leona was born April 16, 1920 in Keuterville, Idaho to Bernard Henry Schmidt and Mary Ann Mader. Leona spent her formative years in Keuterville and graduated from St. Gertrude’s High School in 1938. She moved to Boise, Idaho in 1939 and attended St. Alphosus School of Nursing. Leona graduated as a nurse in 1942. She then trained as an anesthetist in Chicago, Illinois. She married Wallace Connell on September 17, 1942 in Boise. Leona and Wallace traveled extensively but finally settled in Juneau, Alaska and lived there for 30 years before returning to Boise. Leona was a member of St. Mark’s Parish and was also affiliated with nursing groups in the Boise area. Leona was preceded in death by her husband Wallace. She is survived by one sister, Dolores, and numerous nieces and nephews.
