Leona Belle Smith Welker, 96, Anderson, passed away November 25, 2008 at Community Northview, Anderson after an extended illness. She was born December 21, 1911 in Pendleton, Indiana, and resided in Madison County all of her life.
Leona was a homemaker. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church.
She is survived by her two sons, Robert “Bob” Welker of Anderson and David & wife Tereesa Welker of Anderson; sister, Laura & husband Hubert Oliver of Anderson; grandchildren, Sandy & husband Howard Oakley, Linda & husband Roger Lambert, Richard & wife Jennifer Welker, Lisa Carmany, Michelle & husband Matthew Forney, Sheila & husband John Munchel, Jeff Demos and Lacinda & husband Kevin Rushton; several great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and special friend, her bird, Freddy.
A special thanks to the nurses and staff at Community Northview for their wonderful care of Leona. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Welker who passed away on August 10, 1955; daughter, Carolyn Demos; son, Tommy Welker; grandchildren, Eric Welker and Danny Welker; parents, Wesley & Martha Barker Smith and daughter-in-law, JoAnne Welker.
