Leona Mae “Tony” Etherington, the daughter of Irvin and Myrtle (Lindeman) Etherington, was born on September 1, 1921 in Mingo, Iowa. Leona was married to Herbert Estberg from 1938 until 1949. On January 30, 1959 Leona was united in marriage with Melvin R. Abbas in Blue Earth, Minnesota. She was a member of Grace Church, VFW Auxiliary, Algona Senior Center and RSVP. Leona enjoyed bowling, embroidering, baking, cooking, and spending time with her grandchildren and family.
Left to cherish Leona’s memory are her children, Jan Uhlenhopp of Algona and Michael Estberg of Crane, MO; two step sons, Gary Abbas of Agra, OK and Vernon Abbas of Humboldt; six grandchildren; eigthteen great grandchildren; eleven great great grandchildren; and a sister, Arleen Mathews of Helena, MT. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Robert Estberg; a step-daughter, Jeanette Abbas Rash; a brother, Donald Etherington; and two sisters, Evelyn Cutler and Alece Schmicking.
