Leon Yarbrough, 75, of Vandalia, died peacefully Wednesday, November 20, 2013 in his residence in the presence of those whom he loved and who loved him.
Leon was born December 2, 1937 in Jackson, Tennessee to Robert and Alline (Rogers) Yarbrough, Sr. He married Georgia (McIntosh) Sykes November 28, 2001 in Chicago, Illinois. She survives.
Leon was preceded in death by his parents. He was also preceded by his mother in law, Olar Allen; one step daughter, Vickie Sykes; and one step son, Derek K. Sykes. Leon was known as “Love” by his wife. He was a family man. He loved the outdoors and he loved the blues. Leon could be very comical.
Family and friends will greatly miss Leon. He is survived by his wife, Georgia (McIntosh) Yarbrough of Vandalia; two daughters, Cynthia (Parise) Jordan of Midwest City, Oklahoma, Deidre Yarbrough of Chicago; one son, Darryl (Shannon) Yarbrough of Chicago; four step daughters, Donnette Sykes, Deborah (Willard) Busch, Denise (Marcus) Hunter, all of Chicago, Janice Stephens, Riverdale, Illinois; three step sons, Darryl (Kimberly) Thompson of Rockford, Illinois, Demond (Valerie) Thompson, Norman Thompson, both of Chicago; numerous grandchildren and step grandchildren; many great grandchildren and step great grandchildren; three sisters, Linda Seay of Romeoville, Illinois, Evelyn Yarbrough of Riviera Beach, Florida, Maryann Suggs of Tempe, Arizona; two brothers, Robert (Jannie) Yarbrough, Jr. of Chicago, James (Nancy) Yarbrough of Harvey, Illinois; three sisters in law, Stella McIntosh-Peterson of Vandalia, Fannie Mae Hall, Mattie Lee Hill, both of Elberton, Georgia; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
