Leon Stanley Niegelsky, 91, formerly of Reidsville, NC, died October 8, 2015 at River Landing in Colfax. He was born July 6, 1924 in Ansonia, Connecticut to Stanley Niegelsky and Henrietta Ambrose Niegelsky. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Leslie N. Fagge, a brother, Stanley Niegelsky, and a sister, Natalie N. Ammondson. Surviving family members include his wife of nearly 65 years, Marjory Broadbent Niegelsky; son Robert, his wife Karen, and their children Mark and Beth; son Lee, his wife Sandra, and their daughter Sarah; and grandson Christopher Fagge, along with a large and loving extended family that includes Karen and Owen Spargo and their daughter Tai Spargo; Ingrid Ammondson; David and Alex Livingston and their children Hanna and Abbie; Eric Ammondson and Amy McElroy and their children John, Peter and Margaret; John and Molly Ammondson and their children Kelsey, Stanley and Elise; Michael and Dorothy Fagge; Erin and Nathan Styer; Brink and Justin Jones and their children Will and Emma.

Leon grew up in Connecticut, where he graduated from Ansonia High School and from Yale University as part of the Class of 1945W. He served honorably and proudly in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After beginning his business career in New York City, Leon moved to Reidsville, North Carolina and opened his first business, Southeastern Industries. In 1960, he joined with his brother-in-law Clayton J. Ammondson to found ZARN, Inc., a plastics blow-molding manufacturer in Reidsville. For over 25 years ZARN produced a variety of items, and Leon became known as the “Father of the Plastic Nursery Container.”

He was a constant presence in the lives of his family and friends.
