Leon Slay was born on June 9, 1957 to Virgil and Myrtle Slay.

He graduated from Choctaw County High School in Butler, AL where he excelled in academics and sports. He especially loved football.

Leon was a Patriot.  He joined the U.S. Marine Corps where he received a Medal of Good Conduct and an Honorable Discharge.

He was a man of quiet dignity.  He was a good brother and friend who loved working with his hands by taking apart and putting back together various things including washer machines, dishwashers, and refrigerators.  He was an avid football fan and loved outdoor activities including fishing and hunting.  However, more than anything, Leon loved “shooting the breeze” with family and friends.

To know him was to love him.  He always left a smile on his friend’s faces and had a manner and smile that drew people to him. Leon had a heart of gold.

Leon was one of God’s special people.  He was called home on October 5, 2015.  He is preceded in death by his father, Virgil, mother, Myrtle, and brother, Robert.  He leaves to cherish his memories, two sons, Deldrick (Aissa) Bunn and Thomas (LaToshia Reese) Hill; four grand children:  Miesha Bunn, DeAndre Thomkins, Dequaris Hill, and Cyrus Hill; four sisters Helen (Ted) Curry, Dr. Versie (Bobby) Slay, Mary (Kevin) Rachlin, and Kathie Daniels;  five brothers Willie (Betty) Jackson, Kenneth (Marfrienzetta) Slay, Gregory (Beverly) Slay, Elvis Slay, and Howard N. (Sheneak) Slay; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and close friends.
