Leon Sierakowski, 79, of Southington, CT, died peacefully on Thursday, Oct. 27, 2022. He was born in Poland on February 1, 1943, to the late Waclaw and Marianna Sierakowski. He grew up in Strzelniki, Poland until the age of 22, when he moved to Mlawa with his wife to start a family. In search of a better life for them all, he immigrated to the United States in 1981. He settled in for two years before his wife and three daughters joined him.
Leon was an incredibly kind, reliable, generous, family-oriented, and hardworking man. In Poland he was a dedicated delivery driver, but after moving to the US, began working in a bakery and later on in several factories until he retired in the early 2000’s. An active parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in New Britain, he attended mass religiously and made sure all his children and grandchildren were brought up in the Catholic faith. Leon loved nature and his favorite activity was fishing by far. He would wake up before dawn to go on a fishing trip every chance he had. He also really enjoyed gardening, and every summer in his backyard he would grow tomatoes, cucumbers, and other vegetables that he shared with everyone around him. Leon played an active role in his grandchildren’s lives, often picking them up from school, babysitting them, taking them to the park, attending their concerts, sports games, and other extracurricular activities, bringing them their grandmother’s homemade food, teaching them how to drive, going blueberry and strawberry picking with them, or taking them fishing. He was the type of person you could call at any time of day (or night) and he would be there to help. Throughout his life, Leon remained close with everyone he loved, often traveling back to Poland to visit friends and family.
Leon is survived by his beloved wife Czeslawa and their three daughters: Teresa, Barbara and her husband Marek, and Grace and her husband Dariusz. Leon was predeceased by his son-in-law Czeslaw and by his brother Henryk, who is survived by his wife and daughter. Leon is also survived by his nine grandchildren: David Augustowski, Daniel Piekarski, Paul Augustowski, Alexa Piekarski, Jeffrey Augustowski, Dariusz Drozd, Alyssa Pilecki, Adrian Drozd, and Olivia Pilecki.
