Leon Nathal Gordon, age 88, of Clinton, MD, departed this life on March 23, 2020 at Fort Washington Medical Center, after a brief illness.
Leon was born in Lima, Oklahoma in 1931, the sixth of Willie and Bertha (Cartledge) Gordon’s seven sons. He left Oklahoma for the US Army in 1950. A veteran of the Korean War, he was awarded the Korean Service Medal with 4 bronze service stars, the UN Service Medal, and a Combat Infantry Badge. Honorably discharged from the US Army, he enrolled in Langston University, in Langston, OK, in 1953. He graduated in 1957 with a Bachelor of Science degree. After a short time as a junior statistician with the Los Angeles (CA) City School District, he joined the Federal Civil Service and worked as a Mathematician and Senior Systems Analyst at the Naval Surface Warfare Center—Dahlgren (VA) Division for thirty-five years. He received commendation for his contributions to the development of Navy and Marine Corps Tactical Intelligence Processing Systems.
He served as a proud Life Member of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, having been initiated into Beta Kappa Chapter in 1954. He was active in the Omicron Lambda Alpha Chapter for decades. He was also a Mason and a member of the American Legion.
His parents and brothers preceded him in death. He leaves behind to mourn him Louise P. Gordon, his loving wife of 52 years, Alexia L. Gordon, M.D., his devoted daughter, his nieces, nephews, fraternity brothers, and many friends.
