Leon (Lee) Joseph Weinberger, 90, of Rio Verde, AZ and Pinetop, AZ, passed away on October 3, 2022 at Hospice of the Valley/Eckstein Center In Scottsdale AZ. Lee was born in Leroy, WI, one of ten children of James Joseph and Marie Anna Weinberger. He is survived by his soulmate and wife Janet (Jan).
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers James Jr., Robert, Carl and Thomas, and sister Rita. He is survived by brothers Norbert, Daniel and Alex and sister Mary Ann. He raised seven children; Alan, Carol, Eric, Janet, Randy, Kelly and John and has 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
After finishing his Freshman year at St. Norbert College in De Pere, WI., Lee enlisted in the army during the Korean Conflict and spent most of his time serving in Japan. After service he returned to Wisconsin and enrolled as a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin Madison School of Business where he majored in Accounting. He also attended Harvard Advanced Management School. Lee held a CPA Certificate but the majority of his career was spent in the Insurance Industry both in the US and overseas. He served on many Boards of Directors throughout his career and in 1988 received the “Distinguished Business Alumnus” award at University of Wisconsin.
Lee enjoyed football, sailing, tennis, theater and especially golf where he shot his age or better 124 times. He loved building wood boats – kayaks, canoes, sailboats – all of them seaworthy. He was also a dedicated fan of the Wisconsin Badgers and the Green Bay Packers football teams.
