Leon Haynes, the son of the late Clarence Benson and Hulda Benson, was born June 6, 1922, in Denton, MD. His earthly mission was fulfilled on November 6, 2017, as he peacefully slipped away with his loving wife of 18 years Naomi and other family members by his side.

Leon was educated in the Caroline County Public School System. He worked for more than 20 years with the state of Maryland in Queen Anne’s County and retired from there.

Leon and Naomi shared five children: Michael Johnson of Queenstown, MD, Shirley Johnson of Delaware, Gloria Johnson Nickens of North Carolina, Leon Johnson, Jr., of Salisbury, MD, and Terry Johnson of Delaware.

Leon Haynes liked both soul and gospel music. “Respect” by Aretha Franklin was one of his favorites. His favorite gospel song was “I Shall Not Be Moved.” He also liked keeping a clean and shining car.

Leon was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Hulda Benson, great-granddaughter Nyasia Warner, and great-grandson Brandon M. Warner, Jr., of Denton, MD.

He leaves to mourn his memory his wife, Naomi Johnson Haynes of Grasonville, MD, a loving granddaughter Latrisha Carter (Norman) of Easton, MD, a loving niece Tonya Wright of Grasonville, MD, children Michael Johnson (Romaine) of Queenstown, MD, Shirley Johnson, Gloria Johnson Nickens, Leon Johnson, Jr., Terry Johnson, Rita Haynes Bonds, Wanda, and Wendy of Centreville, MD, Linda of Cambridge, MD, Deborah of Easton, MD, Joyce and Sandra of Philadelphia, PA, and Muriel Haynes of Cambridge, MD, grandson Michael Johnson, Jr., great-grandson Kaden Banks, and a host of other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
