Leon Gulans Sr., passed away on December 9th, 2021, at the age of 80, at Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. He passed peacefully, with his children present. His final hours were filled with blessed moments of prayer, tender words, much love, and choice family songs.
Leon was a strong man, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He worked hard and he played hard and was a Strong Bible-loving Christian. Leon’s primary passion and talent was in playing every style of guitar. His favorite one being, his well-remembered, tabletop, double-necked, steel guitar. His love of, and gifting in music, has brought joy and community into the hearts of many people, throughout his life.
He is survived by his sisters, Irene Glade (Richard) and Helen Glenn. His children: Leon (Jessica) Gulans, Christina (John) Gulans, Deborah Gulans, Jeff (Rick) Gulans, Theresa Gulans, Natalie (Brian) Schlichte, and Michelle (Jason) Turner. Grandchildren: Nicholas and Kerri Gulans, Tony Bach, Alisha and Mero Gulans, Rick and Ericka Dunsmore, Ethan and Logan Schlichte, Taylor, Jadon, and Trevor Turner; great-grandchildren: Evan, Aaliyana, and Amory Gulans, Ava Beerbower, and Dorian McFadden. Special mention to additional “adopted” family of Julie Moore, Jennie Moore, Adrian and Sawyer Biddle, and Hallie Cook.
Leon was preceded in death by his loving wife Delores, his parents Jazeps and Ludviga, and his six siblings Joseph, Peter, Stanislav, Bronislav, Albert and John.
