Leola Eudena McCormick Mikesell, daughter of James McCormick and Nora (Edelman) McCormick was born on June 21st, 1908 in Olin,Iowa. She passed away on May 25th ,2014 at the age of 105 years, 11 months and 4 days. In 1910 the family moved to Laurel, Nebraska and in 1913 they returned to Iowa and settled on a farm in Lucas County. She attended Frye school through the 5th grade and Chariton school from 6th grade on, graduating from high school in 1926. She received a county teaching certificate from Cedar Falls and began teaching at Frye school in November 1926, remained there for six years, and then taught at Cory school for 1 year. In 1933 she went to Iowa State University, graduating in 1936 with a double major in Homemaking and Science. She taught two years at St. Charles High School and three years at Diagonal High School.
