Leo R. Merkel, 86, a resident of Crownsville for 53 years, died March 23 at Anne Arundel Medical Center. He was born Dec. 24, 1924, in Washington, DC, and was self-employed for many years. He started Merkel’s Trucking and went into the RV business in 1971. He was also the founder of Leo’s Vacation Center. From 1943 to 1945, he served in the U.S. Army Air Force. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Suitland, the Elks Lodge, the Eagles in Florida and the Recreational Vehicle Association, both Maryland and National.
