Leo P. McGrillen, age 76, passed peacefully on November 25th. Leo was born in Chicago on August 12, 1939. He graduated from St. Laurence grammar school and Mt. Carmel High School. In the summer of 1958, at age 18, he broke his neck in a swimming accident and was totally paralyzed, except for some partial arm movement. He spent the remainder of his life in a wheelchair and, although his life was challenging, his strong faith and positive attitude were an inspiration to many. Leo went on to graduate from DePaul University, was able to drive a modified van and got a job as a computer programmer. He was also actively involved at both St. Christina and St. Cajetan Parishes. While he had much support along the way from family and friends, his faith and courage were the predominant traits in his life. Despite his circumstances, he never let discouragement or despair be a part of him.
Leo was the beloved son of the late Kathleen and Leo McGrillen, dear brother of Charles, the late Eileen and the late Kathleen (the late James) O’Brien. He leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews, cousins and devoted friends.
