Leo J. Taugher II, age 69, of Salem, died at 6:12 a.m. Monday, February 2, 2015 at the Louis Stokes VA Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio. He was born July 4, 1945 in Salem, Ohio, the son of Violet R. (DeRienzo) Taugher and the late Leo J. Taugher. Leo was a graduate of St. Paul School and attended Cardinal Mooney High School from 9th to 11th grade, graduating from Salem High School, class of 1963. He was 1969 graduate of YSU where he received a bachelor’s degree in business and was a member of the ZBT fraternity. He was drafted into the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the Marines from 1969-1971 during the Vietnam War. Leo was employed at MCTA in Lisbon as Deputy Director of job training for Columbiana County for 39 years, retiring in 2005. At the same time Leo’s talent for public speaking and his love of cars spurred him to work for the National Hot Rod Association for 37 years where he was a track announcer at numerous drag races yearly throughout the country. Leo had also been a bartender at the former Leo’s Place and the Wooden Nail in Salem. Leo was a member of the Italian American Club where he served as President for over 20 years. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus 1818, Salem Amvets Post 45, American Legion 131, and the Salem Golf Club. Survivors include his mother, Violet R. Taugher of Salem; sister, Susan T. (William) Gregg of University Heights; nephew, Benjamin J. Gregg of Chicago; niece, Christine G. (Jonathan) Baynham of New Orleans, LA; and his aunt, Mary Eakin of Salem.
