Leo Edward Hellenga, 92, of Three Oaks, Michigan, died Friday morning, November 10, 2006, with his wife by his side.Mr. Hellenga was born March 8, 1914 in Three Oaks to Fred and Wava (Swift) Hellenga and graduated from South Bend Business College in 1938. Leo served his country in the U. S. Army during WWII. On October 15, 1939 he married Emma Leah Goodenough in Three Oaks. Mr. Hellenga was a self employed fuel distributor for Standard Oil Company.
He was a member of the Bible Baptist Church in New Buffalo. Mr. Hellenga enjoyed working in his garden and was an avid reader.Survivors include his wife Emma; daughter, Virginia (Earl) Nutz of Greenville, South Carolina; sons, Mark Hellenga of New Carlisle, Indiana and Kenneth (Deborah) Hellenga of LaPorte, Indiana; grandchildren, Heidi (Mike) Matthews, Gretchen Nutz, Hans (Erin) Nutz, Kellie Hellenga, Kim (Al) Wild, Trent (Lisa) Hellenga and Stephanie Hellenga; and seven great grandchildren. Mr. Hellenga was preceded in death by his brother Donald.
