Lenore Werner

Lenore was born July 16, 1915 to Warren and Mary Kinney on a farm 2 miles southeast of Newell, Iowa. Dr. Peatfield baptized her at home in 1925. She attended Newell School and graduated in 1933. She continued her education at American Institute of Business (AIB) College and completed the business course in 1936 and was employed by several companies in Des Moines, Iowa. She left Des Moines in 1939 and was employed by firms in Storm Lake, Iowa. Lenore was a lifetime member of Alpha Iota Business Sorority.

On August 16, 1942 she married Alford R. Werner of Albert City, Iowa. They made their home in Albert City and lived in the present home for 62 years, where “Doc” operated the Standard Oil Station. Her husband died August 2, 1979.

Lenore has been very active in community affairs by serving in several roles as Den Mother when her children were young, President of Community Club for 2 years, and for many years serving as Charter and Board Member of the Albert City Historical Association, Albert City Park Board, Mayview Club, and Albert City Senior Center.

Lenore’s family was important in her life, especially her seven grandchildren. Each grandchild held a special place in her heart.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her brother, Norman Kinney; her sisters-in-law, Trudy, Audrey, Emmy, Astrid, LaVenda, and Elvia; her brothers-in-law, Leroy and Alan; and her grandson, Jon Werner.
