Lenore Antonnette (Portinga) Snyder, 91, formerly of Three Oaks and St. Joseph, Michigan, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus Thursday morning, February 21, 2008. She died peacefully at Woodland Terrace, Bridgman, Michigan where she was cared for by all the staff and her friends with joy and diligence.
Lenore was born September 29, 1916 in Three Oaks, the only child of Peter and Delia (Benders) Portinga. She graduated with honors from Three Oaks High School in 1934 and continued her education at the Benton Harbor Business College, graduating in 1936. Lenore was employed by the Model Loan Company in Benton Harbor, the Warren Featherbone Company in Three Oaks, and retired from the Bank of Three Oaks where she attained the position of Vice President.
On September 19, 1945 she married Ralph J. Snyder in Grand Haven, Michigan, in a ceremony officiated by the Reverend A. Hellenga. Lenore was proud of her Dutch heritage and had the opportunity 5 years ago to visit the Netherlands and some of her distant relatives there. She was a member of the First Reformed Church in Three Oaks for 70 years where her grandparents where charter members. She moved to St. Joseph, Michigan 20 years ago and joined the Christian Reformed Church of St. Joseph. Prior to her death, her pastor, Reverend John DeVries, read words of comfort and encouragement from Psalm 84.
She will be missed by her family in the Lord at the Christian Reformed Church of St. Joseph and her several cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband on May 30, 1986.
