Lendyburgh Talley departed this life October 19, 2021.
Lendyburgh Talley peacefully departed this life on October 19, 2021 at OSU East. His words of comfort to us, as he began to transition, were “I feel good”. Lendyburgh, affectionately known as “Brother Red”, was born November 1, 1929 in Tuskegee, Alabama to the late Mose Talley Sr. and Mary Ann McIntosh. To this union were born thirteen children: Aaron, Savoria, Mary, General Pearson, Jimmy, Willie Vessie, Ella, Florida, Bertha, Elvren, Clara Jane, and Cassie Pearl, all of which preceded him in death. He is the last button on Job’s coat.
Bro. Red grew up in rural Alabama farming, at the age of seven, with his family. He was educated at Prairie Farms High School. He later attended Veterans Plumbing School. In 1951, he was inducted into the army and served in the Korean War. After his tour of duty, he returned home and moved to Brooklyn, New York. While in New York, he married the late Sarah Gibson. To this union were born Rene, Gibson, Theresa Diane, and Pamela. The family later moved to Cleveland, OH.
In the mid 70’s, Bro. Red moved to Columbus, OH and gave his heart to the Lord. He joined the Church of God on Hudson St, under the leadership of the late Elder Bertha Clarke, serving on the Usher Board. There he met and married Victoria Lake and blended his family with Adrienne, Ericka, and their sons, Victor and Vincent.
Bro. Talley worked for the state, City of Columbus, and the Ohio State University Hospital. In his spare time he loved to cook, fish, hunt, and travel. He was the President of the infamous Talley Reunion for over 25 years, under the support of Lloyd Brown and Bobby Hawes.
