Lendia Louise Swopes was born April 8, 1947 in Decatur, AL to Dorothy Garrett Swopes and George Swopes Sr. She was affectionately known by many as “Connie Mac”. She departed this life April 8, 2016 at Decatur Morgan Hospital. She confessed a hope in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at an early age and joined Wayman Chapel AME church where she served faithfully until her death.
Lendia was reared in Decatur City Schools and graduated from Lakeside High school in 1964. After graduating she attended Miles College. While her career crossed several different avenues including cosmetology and industry, her expertise was in the kitchen. She was employed and held positions at Cutler Hammer, Decatur Country Club and Burningtree Country Club where she amazed many with her recipes and her personality.
She was preceded in death by her father, George Swopes Sr . sister; Georgia Mae Swopes , brothers; Reverend John Michael Owens and Todd Randall Swopes .
She leaves to cherish her memory: her mother, son; Ramsey Swopes Decatur, AL; grandson; Sedrick Mitchell Memphis, TN, granddaughter Ramani Swopes Decatur, AL. brothers: George Swoopes Jr., Lawrence Swopes , Jeffery Swopes (Sharon), Toney Swopes and Darrick Swopes ( Rekita ) all of Decatur, Buster Swoopes (Willie), Lawton, OK, and Gregory Swopes (Inga), Baltimore, MD; sisters: Mattie Burks (Robert), Joyce Oliver, Regina Swopes , Sharon White, Sebrina Smith, and LaTanya Swopes all of Decatur, Jacklen Robinson (Leonard), Brentwood, TN and Celia Cotten, Severn, MD; special sister, Carol Watkins; special sons, Roderick Morris and Cedric Evans; special daughters; Erica Evans-Powell and Sonya Elliott; very special nieces, very special nephews, and a host of other special individuals…you know who you are.
