Lena Ostwald, age 97, of Whittemore, Iowa died on January 10, 2015 at the Algona Manor Care Center. Magdalena Christina Dora Zimmerman, the daughter of Mike and Frieda (Riggert) Zimmerman, was born on November 10, 1917 in Burt, Iowa. She was baptized in November 1917 by Rev. Fuerstenau and confirmed on March 20, 1932 by Rev. Braner.
On September 22, 1940 Lena was united in marriage with Elmer Ostwald. She worked as a bookkeeper for Elmer’s auto repair shop. Lena was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where she was active in the Ladies Aid, sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. She enjoyed crafts and sharing them with friends and family, playing cards, camping and baking.
Left to cherish Lena’s memory is a brother, Martin Zimmerman a resident at Algona Manor Care Center; two sister-in-laws, Violet Zimmerman of Heber Springs, AR and Marilyn Zimmerman of Omaha, NE; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a sister, Hulda Menz; brothers, John, William, Harold and Reinhardt; and two sister-in-laws, Lois R. Zimmerman and Lois Zimmerman.
