Lena Maxine McElmurry passed away suddenly but peacefully in her home on Sunday, November 19th, 2017. She is survived by her son Jim, granddaughters Kelli and Kim, four beloved great-granddaughters and many nieces and nephews. She was born Lena Maxine Rader on January 10th, 1922, to Marvin and Martha “Nora” Rader in Maricopa, CA. She was the third of four children, and despite all her many health problems, she outlived them all. She had a fighter’s spirit from day one, and refused to let any health issues get in her way. She graduated from Taft Union High School in 1940, then moved with her brother Art to Venice, CA where she worked at Bendix manufacturing in support of World War II. In her spare time, she loved to go dancing with her sisters and friends. Her favorite was the Jitterbug and she was pro. Not long after, she caught the eye of a handsome man from Missouri named Elrod McElmurry, and 3 months later, became his wife. The doctors told her she shouldn’t have children, but she was determined to have a family and gave birth to a son in 1945. A few years later, Lena would come to study with Jehovah’s witnesses, and found a hope that would prove to be the anchor in her sea of hard times-the prospect of living in perfect health in a paradise on earth. Without hesitation, she dedicated her life to Jehovah on June 3rd, 1951. She continued to be a devoted wife, mother, and servant to god until the end, and we will forever consider her presence on this earth and faithful example a blessing to be thankful for. We love and miss you always, our red-headed fire-cracker.
