Lena Mabel Bowser Jones, who was born on February 3, 1924, passed away on Tuesday, December 22, 2015, in Belton, Texas.

Lena was born to George Bowser and Elizabeth McCaslin Bowser in Waco, Texas. Lena met the love of her life, Charles “Charlie” Ray Jones in 1942 and they married on July 25, 1942 in Mountain Home, Arkansas. They were married for 61 years, when Charlie died in 2003.

Lena was for many years in sales and worked at Kress in Temple, Texas, until her retirement. After her retirement, in 1988, at age 63, she fulfilled a life long desire to receive her GED, something she was very proud of. She later went on to tutor students through the Belton Public Schools Literacy Program. She also was an artist, taking up painting in her 60s, a hobby she enjoyed for many years.

Lena was preceded in death by her parents, George & Elizabeth Bowser, her husband, Charlie Jones, a brother, George C. Bowser, Jr., and granddaughter, Pamela Thorn.

She is survived by her daughters, Cherub Hartmann and Jeanne Jones of Belton; Cindy Coers & husband John Coers of New Braunfels, TX; and her brother Howard Bowser of Austin, TX. Lena, known as “Gan” to her grandchildren, is survived by grandchildren Stan King of Ohio; Jason Carpenter of Belton, TX; Sara Williams of Corinth, TX; Erin Appleby of Philadelphia, Pa; and Todd James of Corpus Christi, TX. She is survived by great grandchildren Sydney Patty of Belton, TX; Madison Williams of Corinth, TX; and Jack, Frankie, and Dottie Appleby of Philadelphia, PA. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
