Lena M. Cox, 84, of Jacksonville, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015, at her home.
She was born April 16, 1930, in Danville, the daughter of Ernest Vernon and Etta Eunice Ralls Hancock. She married Louis Wendell Cox Sr. on Aug. 11, 1949 in Covington, IN, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 9, 2003.
She is survived by three daughters and one son, Elizabeth A. Humber of Ft. Worth, TX, Brenda J. Lawson of Alsey, Louis W. (Diana) Cox Jr. of Culleoka, TN, and Cindy S. (Randy) Suiter of Jacksonville; seven grandchildren, Dennis “D.J.” Cox, Heath (Becky) Cox, Valaree (Jay) Hansard, Erik (Jannette) Figueriedo, Bonnie (Jake) Edwards, Billy Joe (Nicole) Lawson II, and Veronica Sue Fanning; a brother, Richard (Sylvia) Hancock of Decatur, AL; three sisters, Betty (David) Lee of Cayuga, IN, Edna Jean Ardire of West Lebanon, IN, and Diane (Richard) Jumps of Perrysville, IN; former son-in-law, Billy Joe Lawson of Jacksonville, and special “daughter” Amber Gregory of Jacksonville.
She was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Wayne Cox (surviving wife Beverly of Lenoir City, TN); a brother, Johnny Hancock; and a sister, Wilma Shelato.
Mrs. Cox was a longtime member of Pioneer Point Campers Club. She enjoyed puzzles and embroidering, and she loved her St. Louis Cardinals and her cat, Smokey. Lena was a mother to many.
