Lena Bartolomeo Lamon passed away peacefully on February 4, 2017 with her family by her side. Lena was the devoted and beloved wife of James A. Lamon, loving mother of Mary Ann (Joe) Petruccelli, Jean (Bill) Agrafiotis, Kathryn (Kevin) Collins and Chris, devoted grandmother of Francis (Lindsay), Victoria, Vincent, Chiara, and Teresa Petruccelli, Matthew and Austin Agrafiotis, James and Megan Collins, great grandmother of Cormac. She was predeceased by her sisters, Marian, and Marie. She is survived by her sisters Jo, Rose, and Frances and many nieces and nephews.
Lena was born on September 17, 1928 in Washington DC to Matteo and Vittoria Bartolomeo. She was the fourth daughter of six daughters. She attended Coolidge High School from 1942-1946 and graduated from Wilson Teachers College with a Bachelor of Arts in 1952. Lena volunteered as Candy Striper at Providence Hospital and worked at Ida’s Department Store on the corner from her home to earn money to pay for college. After college, she worked on Capitol Hill for seven years as a secretary/stenographer in the Office of Congressman Peter Rodino of New Jersey. She had met James (Jim) Lamon at Wilson Teachers College and after his discharge from the Coast Guard they began dating and were later married on May 23, 1959 at Nativity Catholic Church in Washington, DC. Lena and Jim have resided in their Hyattsville Maryland home since marrying in 1959. Lena became a homemaker and full time mom after starting a family. Lena enjoyed taking vacations with her family to the Poconos and Wildwood, NJ and vacationing with Jim in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.
Lena’s family will be receiving family and friends on Thursday February 9 from 3 to 6 p.m. at St.
