After a long and valiant struggle, Leland Richard (Lee) Cooley departed this life on April 21, 2016 at Gilchrist Hospice in Columbia, Maryland. His death was swift and peaceful and at his side were his loving wife and best friend, Catherine E. Born, cherished daughter Maura Ordovensky and her husband, Michael, beloved stepdaughter Elizabeth McGlone (Sean), and longtime friend, Cathleen Conley Young.
During his three decades of Baltimore City residence, Lee was active in neighborhood and citywide initiatives. He served many years as president of the Little Lithuania/Hollins Hill Community Association, chaired the Poppleton PAC, and was an original member of the City’s Residential Parking Advisory Committee. He also served for more than ten years on the Farmer-Mitchell Community Advisory Board for the University of Maryland Medical System.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather and two half siblings, Vicky and Robert Lehtoranto. He is survived by his loving wife, Catherine E. Born, his cherished daughter, Maura Ordovensky (Michael), beloved stepdaughter, Elizabeth McGlone (Sean), three adored granddaughters, Taryn Carter (Tony), Kylie and Brynn Ordovensky. Also surviving are two precious great grandchildren, Desmond and Josephine Carter, a dear sister, Anne Harrison (David) and a terrific nephew, D. Paul Harrison.
