Leif Rein Sigmond, 90, a 50 year resident of Oceanport, passed away at home, with his wife and children by his side after a long illness, on Friday, November 4, 2016. Leif was born in Stavanger, Norway to Leif Robsham and Edel (Berge) Sigmond. He honorably served our country in the US Army during WWII and the Korean War. In 1952, he earned his BS in Chemical Engineering from Lafayette College.
Leif was an avid sailor. He loved boats and the sea. He raced many of his beloved boats named “Valhalla” over the years and shared his love of sailing with family and friends. He was a member of the New York Yacht Club and formerly a member of the Shrewsbury Sailing and Yacht Club as well as the Atlantic Highlands Yacht Club. He will always be remembered either laughing, telling an off-color joke or loudly singing his two favorite songs: Que Será, Será and God Bless America. He lived life to the fullest and knew how to have fun.
Leif is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, E. Joan (Robichaux) Sigmond, his son, Leif R. Sigmond Jr. and his wife Laura (Gudicello) Sigmond of Riverwoods, IL, his daughter, Maria Sigmond of Oceanport, his son-in-law, Dennis Warner of Oceanport, his grandchildren; Francesca Marie Sigmond, Leif R. Sigmond III, Margaret Joan Sigmond-Warner and Aaron Dennis Sigmond-Warner and his sister, Asta Lisa Olsen and her husband, Tor Olav Olsen of Stavanger, Norway.
