LeeAnn M. Meyer, age 84, of Algona, passed away Sunday May 10, 2015 at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. It is only fitting that our mother/grandmother/great grandmother to pass away on Mother’s Day. LeeAnn Mary Meyer, was born at home on the family farm near West Bend, Iowa. Her parents, George and Grace (Buenger) Hanselman raised her to be a Christian lady attending Peace Lutheran Church in West Bend. She graduated proudly as a Cardinal from Rodman High School, class of nine students, in 1948.
She worked as a bookkeeper at the West Bend Elevator for several years until she met her husband of 63 years. She married Amos Meyer on December 30, 1951 at Peace Lutheran Church in West Bend. Her travels took her swiftly to Georgia where Amos was stationed in the Army. Her next adventure took her to Denver, Colorado as the Army life kept her moving. She gave birth to her first of seven children in Colorado before moving back to Algona. LeeAnn and Amos owned and operated Meyer Garden Center, a family business near Algona, for over 20 years until they retired in 1989. Her life was that of a nurturing mother who always put God and her family in her life first. She was a very kind, soft spoken Christian person that was very deserving to leave us on her special day, Mother’s Day.
She loved Gardening, the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Chicago Cubs, playing cards and was quit the witty person at times. Left to cherish LeeAnn’s memory is her husband Amos of 63 years; children, Gary (Desiree) Meyer of Ankeny, Keith (Linda) Meyer of Mesa, Arizona, Craig (Lieselle) Meyer of Cumming, Georgia, Lori Cleare of Houston, Texas, Dennis Meyer of Johnston, Iowa, Linda (Tom) Bjustrom of Whittemore and Karen (David) Golwitzer of Algona; 15 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; sister, Edith Glossen, Humboldt, IA brothers, Donald & Eugene, West Bend, IA sister-in-laws, Janie Hanselman, West Bend, IA Deloris Meyer, Algona Doris Meyer, San Antonio, TX brother-in-laws, Earl Krug, Colorado Springs CO Ronald Meyer, West Bend, IA Dean (Marlene) Meyer, Algona. She was preceded in death by her parents; mother & father-in-law Wilhelm & Arina Meyer, brother, Richard Hanselman, sister, Eldora Krug, sister-in-laws, Betty Meyer & Rita Hanselman, brother & sister-in-law Rich & Lavonne Garman, brother-in-law Kenny Meyer.
