Lee Phoenix, 90 of Centralia, passed away Friday, September 6, 2013 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia. Lee was born June 23, 1923 in Mountain View, Arkansas, daughter of Frank Hale and Anna (Ballentine) Hale. She was raised in Arkansas by her aunt and uncle Sid and Pearl Weeks. She married Lyle Kenneth Phoenix in 1942 and he preceded her in death.
Lee is survived by three daughters: Cheryl Phoenix and Jana Phoenix, both of Centralia and Connie Buckett and husband Bill of Beacon, New York; ten grandchildren: Greg Phoenix and wife Jill of Centralia, Sean Phoenix and wife Christi of Houston, Texas, Dion Holt-Phoenix and wife Marianne, U.S.N., of Chula Vista, California, Jonathan Phoenix and wife Candice of Houston, Texas, Vanessa Holt-Phoenix of Murphysboro, Illinois, Kyle Buckett, U.S.N., and wife Candice of San Diego, California, Lucas Buckett of Pasadena, California, Trevor Buckett, U.S.N., and wife Anya of Hawaii, Evie Buckett of Beacon, New York and Wesley Buckett, U.S.N., of Norfolk, Virginia; ten great-grandchildren; a brother: Clollan Cross of Houston, Texas; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a son, David Phoenix. Lee worked at Murray Center for 20 years. She enjoyed talking about baseball and football. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. She also enjoyed crochet, knitting, reading and puzzles. Most of all she loved spending time with her family, friends and her wire-haired fox terrier, Buffy.
