Lee “Ken” McKinney Walker, 70, of Newton died on Tuesday, November 10, 2020, at Park Centre Care Center.
Ken, the son of Dr. J.L. and Lucille (Coleman) Walker, was born on March 22, 1950 in Clarksville, Georgia. As a child he grew up in many places throughout the south until his family made their home in Newton, Iowa in 1965, when Ken was a sophomore in high school. After graduating from Newton High School, Ken attended Central College. On June 20, 1969, Ken was united in marriage with Randa Russell in Newton. They lived in Pella and raised cocker spaniels for extra money while completing college. In May of 1975, Ken graduated from Drake Law School.
Ken and Randa made their home in Newton with their three boys, Corey, Kerry, and Kelly. Beginning in 1975, he had a successful 41-year law practice in Newton. Ken focused most of his time helping clients with divorces, real estate, estate planning, probate, and many other legal matters. Throughout the years, Ken had served on a number of volunteer boards including the United Way, Jaycees, Capstone, Legal Aid, and the Knoxville Hall of Fame.
Ken is survived by his wife, Randa Walker of Newton; children, Corey (Beth) Walker of Ankeny, Kelly Walker of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Kerry (Mindi) Walker of Newton; grandchildren, Sophia and Corbin Walker, Madi, Aidan, and Jack Walker, and Evan and Ethan Walker; his brother, Jesse (Susan) Walker of Nashville, Tennessee; and his nephew, Jared (Megan) Bazal, and their family.
