Leatta Mae Shingleton Helmick, 79, of Clarksburg, passed away on Friday, July 30, 2010 at her residence following an extended illness. Mrs. Helmick was a retired cook at the Sheraton Inn. She was born in Lumberport on March 25, 1931, a daughter of the late Robert Lee and Ellen Ancell Shingleton. She was married to James D. Helmick, who preceded her in death. Surviving are four children, Janet Fincham and her husband Forman, Clarksburg, Patricia Longwell and her husband Roger, Clarksburg, Mary Kransican and her husband George, Streator, IL, and Pamela Moore and her husband Gary, Clarksburg; 19 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; five brothers and sisters, Robert Shingleton and his wife Elsie, NY, William Shingleton and his wife Ethel, Martinsburg, Clarence Shingleton, Streator, IL, Judy Lawson, Parkersburg, and Norman Shingleton, Parkersburg; several nieces and nephews; one daughter-in-law, Rebecca Helmick; and her special friend, Helen Jenkins. She was also preceded in death by one son, Robert D. Helmick; one brother, David Shingleton; and two sisters, Beulah Hanning and Lucy Barr. Mrs. Helmick was Baptist by faith. She was a great cook and a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. Her family loved her very much and she will be sadly missed.
