Leatrice (LaBrie) Johnson, 81, of Bristol, passed away after a lengthy illness, on February 18, 2011.
Leatrice was born in Lebanon, New Hampshire on March 28, 1929, the daughter of the late Ernest and Ethel LaBrie. An excellent student, she graduated with honors from Lebanon High School, and went on to receive her degree in teaching from Plymouth College in New Hampshire in 1951. She taught for a year at Hanover High School. After her marriage to Norman Johnson in 1952, she followed him to Virginia, where she was a valuable teacher in Norwalk for a year. While Norman served his country in the US Army in Korea, she relocated back to New Hampshire, where her son, the love of her life, was born in Lebanon. Leatrice had an excellent eye for the best value for the least cost, and provided a loving home for her family. She moved to Bristol in 1955, and earned two Master’s Degrees from Central Connecticut State University. She then taught at Terryville High School for seven years. She was an excellent bridge player and excelled in all types of competitive games. Tutored by her friend Rita Card, she took up watercolor painting and filled her home with cherished art treasures. A devoted wife and mother, she will be sorely missed by her husband and her son.
Honoring Leatrice’s wishes, her family will celebrate her life privately.
