L.D. Lamar Palmer, 94, of Elkhart, passed away at Greenleaf Health Campus at 10:15 a.m. on Friday, June 5, 2020. He was born on June 1, 1926 in Elkhart to the late Irvin E. and Byrdena M. (Culver) Palmer.

L.D. is survived by his half-brother, Harry Palmer; half-sister, JoAnn Vandine; many nieces and nephews; and leaves behind many of his special friends from Stratford Commons Apartments, where he had formerly lived. He married his loving wife, Carolyn Rowe, on July 10, 1971, who preceded him in death on May 2, 2007. L.D. is also preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Jennifer Erhardt; sister, Evelyn J. Myers; and brother, Irvin C. Palmer.

L.D. got his diploma from Elkhart High School but had also attended Jimtown for one year and Bristol for three years. He served bravely in the United States Navy in World War II aboard the CVL-30 USS San Jacinto, aircraft carrier in South Pacific. He was a skilled master plumber and held this title for over 40 years. He worked many local jobs and was the vice president of H.C. Davis Mech. Contracting. In his spare time, he enjoyed building model cars and airplanes.
