Mr. Jones was born on April 22, 1951 in Bell Mina, Alabama to the late Jim Mack Jones Sr. and Pattie Pernell Shannon Jones. He entered into eternal life on Friday, September 12, 2014 at Trinity Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama.
Mr. Jones attended Decatur City Schools and was a 1969 graduate of Lakeside High School. He received a Certificate in Wielding from Calhoun Community College and an Associate Degree in Behavior Science from Wallace State Community College. Mr. Jones worked for 10 years at Valley Machine and Fabrication and later as a cook for the Decatur City Jail.
Lawrence accepted Christ as his personal Savior at an early age and united with David Temple P.B. Church under the leadership of the late Reverend W.E. Owes. He later united with Bell P.B. Church under the Elder Sam L. Rice, where he was ordained and served as a deacon. He then joined Faith M.B. Church in Athens under Pastor Willie J. Mangruen where he served until his health failed.
He was preceded in death his parents, sister, Jimmie Lee Thorne and brother, Jim Mack Jones Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Minister Brenda F. Jones; eight sons: Jeffrey O Garth of Decatur, Timothy E. (Lisa) Jones of Garland, TX, Clifton L (Katrina) Jones, Lawrence W. Jones Jr., Terrance O (Markeeda) Jones, Christopher L. Jones, Jamison R. (Telisha) Jones, Jerome Garth all of Decatur; five daughters, Donna F. (Jamar) Reynolds, Chanatia L. Jones, Mia Garth, LaTasha Garth all of Decatur and LaTonia A (Victor) Mangruen of Huntsville; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Jones; father and mother-in-law, James and Gloria Wilkerson; grandmother-in-law, Mrs. Lillie M. Wiggins; two uncles, Willie (Emma Ruth) Jones Sr. all of Decatur, Willie B. Jones of Sheffield; two aunts, Evelyn Jones of Decatur and Fannie Mitchell of Florence; three nieces, three nephews, twenty seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
