Lawrence R. Smith passed away on February 11th, 2010, at his home. He was a longtime resident of Alamogordo.
Larry was born on August 20, 1945 in Dubois, Pennsylvania, to Guy and Evelyn Smith. He married his beloved Carol Orwell on October 8, 1966 in Ipswich, Suffolk, England. Larry served proudly in the United States Air Force and retired as a Master Sgt. in 1983 after twenty years of service, having served in the Vietnam War. He then went on to work for Army Air until his retirement in 2003.
Larry was an avid hunter and spent many years enjoying the sport with his dear friends and family. He always had a funny story to tell and had a special way of telling those stories. He will be missed by his family and his many friends that he made through the years.
Larry is survived by his wife of 44 years, Carol Smith, of the family home, his daughter, Paula Polage of Alamogordo, his son Marc Smith and his wife Maria Smith of Herndon, VA. Four grandchildren, Ian Polage and his wife Ashley Polage of San Diego, CA., Cameron Polage of Alamogordo, and Valerie and Alexia Smith of Herndon, VA. He is also survived by his mother, Evelyn Comer, his sisters Debbie, Lynne, Tracy and Juanita and his brother Dan. Special mention should go to his brother in law, Bryan Orwell, of Kent, England. His family would like to give special mention to his hunting companion and friend, Clay Lincoln and his ex son in law, Randy Polage, both were very dear to him.
