Lawrence E. “Lou” Scher, 86, passed away at his home in Andrews, IN, on Tuesday, August 25, 2020.

Lou was born in Huntington, IN to Herman J. and Mary Celeste “Mamie” (Landrigan) Scher on October 31, 1933. His parents preceded him in death. He married Shirley Ann Kastner at St. Mary Catholic Church, Huntington, IN on October 15, 1960 with Rev. Edward Miller officiating.

Lou was a 1951 graduate of Huntington Catholic High School. He served in the United States Air Force as the Powerhouse Manager in Greenland from 1953-1957. He owned and operated Scher’s Garage for 40 years and farmed prior to his retirement in 2002. He was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and served as a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council # 1014. Lou also was a member of the Ageless Iron of Roanoke, IN Tractor & Machinery Club where he served as both President and Vice President. Lou was a past member of the Izaak Walton League, Moose Lodge, and Southside Business Association.

Lou is survived by his wife, Ann, and four children: Cynthia (Thomas) Dailey, Goshen, IN, Michael (Bette) Scher, Columbus, IN, Judith (David) Bigelow, Greenwood, IN, Raymond (Brett) Scher, Collierville, TN. He is survived by a brother, Leonard (Janet) Scher, a sister, Martha “Mert” (William) Pyle, both of Huntington, and a sister-in-law Joan Scher, Roanoke, IN, and brother-in-law Jerry Juergens, FL; grandchildren: Matthew (Erin) Johnson, Sarah Johnson, Paul Johnson, Eric Scher, Andrew Scher, Spencer Jones, Cole Jones, Brandon Bigelow, Megan Bigelow, Nicklaus Scher and Meredith Scher; and great grandchildren, Eleanor and Claire Johnson, along with many nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by four sisters: Catherine Bauer, Virginia Bauer, Patricia Meyer, and Mary Juergens; four brothers: Walter Francis, Thomas, Phillip and brothers-in-law, Leonard Bauer, Ronald Bauer, and Arthur Meyer.
