Lawrence Layton Kilbourn, 74, of Middletown, passed away on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at Middlesex Hospital. Born in Utica, NY, he was the son of the late Lysle and Mary (Bendura) Kilbourn.

Larry moved to Connecticut in 1953, fell in love with the CT River, and lived on his boat at different times over a span of many years. He graduated from Pratt Institute in New York with an Industrial Design Degree in 1963. He also was a Lieutenant in the United States Army serving during Vietnam. He then graduated Wesleyan University and earned a Degree in Art in 1972. Larry spent years in the design/art career where he was instrumental in designing toys for Coleco including the cabbage patch doll, smurfs, ET, and baby Disney for Mattel. He also designed the Olin ski boot and furniture for Knoll and DIA. He considered himself a philosopher and would share with all that would listen. He loved dinners with the family. Larry lived his life on his own terms. He is survived by two sons, Sam Kilbourn and his wife, Deanna of Durham and Christian Boucher of Charlotte, NC; three daughters, Laurel Kilbourn of Boston, MA, Heather Kilbourn of Wethersfield and Morgen Kilbourn-Rossomando and her husband, Oakes of Ether, NC and five grandchildren, Amber McFadden, Lysle Kilbourn, Christopher Kilbourn, Alex Kilbourn and Bailey Scozzari.
