Lawrence Augustine Costelac, 91, of Enterprise, passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2008 at United Hospital Center. He was born March 23, 1917 at Owings, WV, a son of the late John Kostelac and Clara Fooks Kostelac. He is survived by his wife Julia Costelac of 73 years; One son Robert Costelac and his wife Patricia of Shinnston; seven grandchildren Jennifer Toth, Lisa Goff, Robert Costelac, Jr., Dave Costelac, John Costelac Jr., Shannon Jimenez, and Steve Cutlip; also surviving are eight great grandchildren; and seven great, great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, John “Coffee” Kostelac and Carl “Andy” Kostelac; three sisters Francis Halterman, Mary Verbonic, and Halamena “Minnie” Romano; and two sons Lawrence G. Costelac Jr., John K. Costelac Jr., and an infant son Ronald Kostelac. Mr. Costelac was a coal miner with Consol mines in 1933 and then later worked as a surface miner. Lawrence was a partner with United Coals and then became sole owner; He was also owner of the LL & B Coal of Lost Creek, WV. Mr. Costelac was an avid sports fan and was one of the original 100 directors club members with WVU athletics for 58 years and was a two time nominee for Most Loyal Mountaineer. He loved chocolate, but most of all loved going out to dinner, spending time with his family and keeping up with current events reading his newspapers.
