Lawrence Albert (Larry) Umstead , 83, died at Virtua Memorial Hospital in Mt. Holly, NJ on December 24, 2017 after a courageous battle with lung disease. Born September 25, 1934, Larry was a devoted husband for over 62 years to Miriam, beloved father of Candace Matthews (Trani), Lawrence Jr. (Karren), Michael, and Kelly Davenport (David). Proud grandfather to Jeffrey, Matthew, Daniel and Rachel.
Predeceased by his parents, Albert and Gertrude Umstead and brother Ken Umstead, he also leaves behind loving brothers James Umstead (Teresa) and Don Umstead, along with many other beloved family members and friends. Served with the Naval Reserves, he worked hard at various jobs to provide for his family, retiring in 2003 after working two decades plus with LSG Sky Chefs at local airports. Shared a love of Philadelphia area sports with his family, especially the Phillies. Great father, husband, brother, uncle, mentor – a fine example of his generation. Lived his life for his kids and family.
