LaVon Robert Moncur, 83, of Boise, returned to his Heavenly Father, surrounded by family, November 20, 2008.
LaVon was born to Rueben L. Moncur and Sylvia Rae Christopherson, January 22, 1925. LaVon was raised on a farm near Acequia, Idaho. Living on the family farm, LaVon was taught many valuable lessons. He worked hard on the farm and had many chores. He loved taking care of the farm animals. He also developed a great love for his family and for his friends.
LaVon met the love of his life, Frieda Rae Grace, at a ham radio class. They were married August 6, 1950 in Idaho Falls. They were sealed January 12, 1953, for time and all eternity in the LDS Temple in Logan, Utah. They were blessed with two beautiful children, a son, Dean and a daughter, Joy.
In August 1948, LaVon enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served in Texas, Nebraska, Alaska, and Washington. He volunteered to become a cook and enjoyed cooking for the troops.
LaVon also worked for the Union Pacific Railroad. He worked in Rupert, Burley, Minidoka, Nyssa, Boise and Nampa. He held many positions. He loved trains and being able to work with the public. LaVon retired from the Railroad in January 1985.
Politics were important to LaVon. He was proud to be a Democrat. LaVon had an amateur radio license and enjoyed talking with people all over the world. His call letters were W7KZH. He was always looking for ways to serve others.
LaVon is survived by his son, Dean Moncur and wife, Stefani; grandchildren, Ryan, Tyler, Jamie, and Nicholas; daughter, Joy Patterson and husband, Roger; grandchildren, Dustin, Kyle, Devin, Braden, and Riley. LaVon was preceded in death by wife Frieda, and his siblings.
