LaVon “Bonnie” Luke was born December 6, 1915, the second of four daughters, to Ora and Ellen Roberts. She passed from this life on August 20, 2013, at the Urbandale Health Care Center, Urbandale, Iowa.
She grew up in rural Lucas County and attended grade school in a one-room schoolhouse called “Hickory Grove”.
She graduated from Chariton High School in 1933, and was married to Harold Luke in 1934.
She has two sons, Dick and Larry Luke.
Her occupation started as a homemaker and progressed to employment at Hy-Vee Headquarters from approximately 1945 until 1981.
Most of these years were in the produce department.
She was a very dedicated employee and saw many changes in the Hy-Vee Corporation during her time of employment.
Her passion was her family, including three sisters and two special nieces.
She especially enjoyed gift giving and elaborate package wrapping.
She was very faithful in recognizing birthdays and anniversaries of friends and relatives.
Bonnie is survived by sons:
Dick (Carol) Luke and Larry (Judy) Luke; grandchildren: Mike (Robin) Luke, Cyndi (Mark) Brugioni, Deb Luke, Scott (Heather) Luke, Tim (Nona) Luke, Mark (Beth) Luke; twelve great grandchildren, and two great, great grandchildren; sister, Joanne Tyler; nieces, Cathy (Brad) Reece and Cristi Gale; and numerous other relatives and friends.
The family wishes to thank Bonnie’s caregivers through the last thirteen years, especially Urbandale Health Care Center for their very compassionate care.
