Laverne “Vern” R. Ward, 85, of Edwardsburg, MI passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at his home.
Vern was born on September 30, 1935 in Nappanee, IN to the late, Richard Ward and Carrie (Gearhart) Ward. He married the love of his life, Joyce A. (Schmidtendorff) Ward on November 23, 1957 in Granger, IN and she survives. Vern is preceded in death by his parents.
Vern is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joyce; children, Deanna (Steve) Wynegar of New Port Richey, FL, Cherean Albright of Elkhart, and Kenneth (Sin Mi) Ward, Niles, MI; grandchildren, Glen Wynegar, Carrie Wynegar, Michael Albright, Brian Albright, Angela Golden and Jason Ward; great grandchildren, Haley, Jasmine, Kyla, Colin, Alex, Caroline, Luke, Haley J., and Ava; and sister, Sandra Brenner of New Port Richey, FL.
Vern graduated from Edwardsburg High School and afterwards honorably served his country in the U.S. Air Force for 4 years during Korean Conflict. He was a machine repairman for many years at Bendix Corp. in South Bend. Vern attended Hope United Methodist Church in Edwardsburg, MI. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing for pan fish. Vern loved working on his fabrication projects in his pole barn and took great pride in his lawn. He was very social and loved talking to people he just met.
