LaVerne’s faith was fortified at an early age and continued at Good Hope United Methodist Church where she joined the Youth Choir.
LaVerne attended public school in Montgomery County, Maryland from 5th grade to graduating from Paint Branch High School. Verne continued her education and graduated from Howard University receiving her B.F.A. in Theater. Following her undergraduate studies at Howard University, she attended Gallaudet University also in Washington, D.C. She completed a Master in Deaf Education Specializing in Elementary Education.
While working her way through school her newfound computer skills led her to becoming a Computer Management Educations Systems Technician, where she developed and implemented computer courses and corresponding manuals.
Later Verne became an assistant to Actor/Producer Brock Peters instructing trainees on computers in his television and video training facility. She then moved on to work as Administrative Assistant to Actor/Director Sidney Poitier.
Missing her work with children she followed in our parent’s footsteps and entered the Los Angeles School System as an Itinerant Teacher. This allowed her to work with students that needed some auditory, speech-reading, or relevant training to assist them in their everyday lives.
LaVerne was first and foremost a Child of God, daughter, sister, cousin, teacher, a singer, inventor and more who truly enjoyed life to the fullest.
She will be truly missed by her sister, family, and friends.
