LaVerne H. McCauley, November 15, 1927 – July 15, 2010.

La Verne H. McCauley, 82, lifetime resident of the Gila Valley, passed away July 15, 2010 at home in New Braunfels, Texas. LaVerne was born November 15, 1927 in Silver City, N.M. She lived a few years in Bisbee, Arizona where she graduated from high school. She met and married Jack W. Cobb there.

They had two children, Jimmy Cobb, Las Vegas, Nevada and Jackie Condon, Belton, Texas. After his death, Dec. 11, 1948, she moved back to the Gila Valley where she met and married Fred McCauley, Dec. 30, 1950. They had two sons, Bill and Glen McCauley, both of Cliff, N. M .. She was a member of the Grant County Pilots Assoc. and The EI Paso Chapter of 99’s for years. She flew cross country in the Powder Puff Derby in 1961. After her divorce from Fred McCauley in 1980, she opened a ceramic shop in Silver City.

She later became partners with Marvin Ellis operating the “Royal Scepter” rock shop. They sold this in 1996 and retired to Mule Creek where she lived until 2007 when her health caused her to be moved to New Braunfels, Texas. She has 17 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her father, Tuck Hollimon, 7/15/79, her mother, Mazie (Shelley) Hollimon, 12/20/60, her sister, Lucy Hollimon, 1/12/27, her brother, Walton Hollimon, 3/21/10, and her great granddaughter, Becca Simpson, 2/16/10.
