Laverne Grayson, formerly of Los Angeles, Ca. passed away peacefully, July 3, 2009, at Carington Manor in Crestview, Florida after a long illness with Parkinson’s disease.

LaVerne was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Arthur Grayson, MD. She was born in Texas and moved with her husband and family to Hollywood Riveria where Dr. Grayson opened his medical practice as a surgeon.

Laverne enjoyed life to its fullest by serving her community, traveling around the world with her husband and friends, enjoyed cooking and entertaining at their home, and working in her home workshop.  She loved her family and valued her many dear friends. She was very active in community organizations in the South Bay area of Los Angeles. Laverne was the President of Little Company Mary Hospital Auxiliary for many years; General Chairman of major fund-raising benefits for Las Vecinas and Little Company of Mary, Burn Center; Chairman of the L.A. County Medical Assoc., Governor of the West Los Angeles District of La Sertoma International and a 50 year Member of The Order of the Eastern Stars. She was a Girl Scout co-leader for many years and served on the Torrance YWCA Board of Directors.

She is survived by her brother, Bert Thrapp Jr. of Long Beach, Ca.; daughter, Sandra and husband Dan Sears of Fort Walton Beach, Fl; son, Alan James Winter of Vacaville, Ca.; grandchildren, Samantha and husband Jonathan Kinard of Oklahoma City, Ok., Heather and husband, Coyt Shirley of Sacramento, CA; Shannon Winters, Courtney Winters of Vacaville, Ca.; also, great-children, Madison Winters and Katherine Kinard. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother and will be dearly missed by all of her family.

The family wish to express heartfelt gratitude to the C.N.A’s. and staff at of Carington Manor for their compassion and loving care and a special Thank You to Emerald Coast Hospice Nurses for their tender care.
