Most merciful God, we commend to you his spirit. Laverne is at peace, having been called to his Eternal Reward on March 28, 2016 at the age of 89.

He was predeceased on August 27, 2005 by his wife Elaine (Schornack) with whom he married on February 26, 1952 and is now reunited.

Laverne was born on May 2, 1926 to the late Frank and Elizabeth (Buckschmidt) Miller in Saginaw and served diligently as a Seaman First Class during World War II. Aboard the USS Cecil, he fought at both Iwo Jima and Okinawa and witnessed Japan’s surrender in Tokyo Bay. An honorable discharge later, he helped Elaine to raise his family under God’s instruction. He built his home single-handed during the first years of his marriage.

Laverne retired after 42 industrious years of service from Consumer’s Energy and was able to focus his energy in devotion at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Saginaw. A long standing member of Gloria Dei, Laverne served as Deacon, an active church council member and usher at services. Laverne was recently distinguished to be a part of the 2014 MidMichigan Inaugural Flight to Washington D.C. to honor WWII veterans. Most ordinary mornings he could be found at the Midland Mall walking and socializing with his adopted family of friends.

He is survived by his children Kenneth and Louanne (Carroll) Miller, James Miller, Robert Miller, Mary Miller, Susan (Miller) and James Adkins, and William and Heather (Davey) Miller; -16- grandchildren; -2- step grandchildren; -21- great grandchildren; and -11- step great grandchildren. All of whom were dear to his heart. Survivors also include Elaine’s sisters Marie (Richard) Holka and Gerri (Donald) Wager.
