Laverna B. “Bobbie” Dunbar, 91, of Elkhart, passed away Saturday, April 12, at Tidewell Hospice House in Sarasota, Fla.

She was born Dec. 5, 1922, In Mason City, Iowa, to Allen T. and Bertha Marguerite (Whipple) Morris.

On Oct. 4, 1947, she married the late Roger Henry Dunbar in Milwaukee.

Survivors include her daughter, Michelle (Jeff) Beard of Nokomis, Fla., and her beloved dog, Starr.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Dean Morris and Earl Morris; sister Shirley Holden; and one granddaughter, Heather Oakley.

Bobbie was a graduate of Rockford High School and Mason City College in Iowa. She taught school in Cerro Gordo County Schools for three years. Bobbie later attended the University of Iowa and studied radiology technology. She worked in hospitals in Michigan, Wisconsin and Missouri, and she later taught X-ray technology at the Elkhart Institute of Technology.

Bobbie later worked as an office manager for her husband’s industrial construction business until it closed, at which time she worked in Superior Court 3 for Judge Worth N. Yoder as a bailiff and secretary for 11 years. She retired at 75 years young.

After retirement, she and her husband would vacation in Florida with her daughter every winter.

Bobbie was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Mary’s Circle and the Four Arts Club.
