LaVern D. Noble, 82, of Three Oaks, Michigan passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2009 at his home with his family at his side following a short illness.LaVern was born July 16, 1927, in Woodland, Michigan to Lester and Grace (Stowell) Noble. He moved to Vicksburg, Michigan in 1928. He attended school in Vicksburg and graduated from Vicksburg High School.

Upon graduation he joined the United States Navy where he spent 1 ½ years serving our country at the end of WWII. He continued his education at Western Michigan University and graduated from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago in 1950. He has been a continuous member of the Michigan and National Funeral Directors Associations. On February 28, 1951 he married Hannah M. Klabo in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He served his residency at Rupert Funeral Home in Vicksburg, Michigan and then was associated with Truesdale Funeral Home in Kalamazoo, Michigan until 1953.

At that time he moved his family to Three Oaks and began to work with Howard Connelly at Connelly Funeral Home. After being in Three Oaks for a short time, he then moved to Galien to manage the funeral home there until purchasing the businesses in 1961. At that time the businesses became known as Connelly-Noble Funeral Home. The funeral home operated the local ambulance service at that time, and Mr. Noble continued this service until Three Oaks formed its volunteer ambulance service of which he was a volunteer for many years. For the next 33 years they served both communities until his retirement in 1995.

LaVern was a member of the Three Oaks United Methodist Church, serving on the board for over 40 years where he was the Financial Secretary. LaVern also served on the Three Oaks Village council, was a past member of Brady Lodge # 208 F&AM of Vicksburg, the Lions Club of Three Oaks and Galien and was active in the Cub and Boy Scout committees.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Hannah; his children, Todd (Zoe) Noble of Three Oaks; Debbie (Don) McCartney, of Sodus; Terri (Jerry) Turner of Berrien Springs and Melissa Noble at home; grandchildren, Erin Noble, Sara (Clay) Ackerman, Amy Noble, Michelle (Kevin) McCoy, Joshua McCartney, Justin (Karrie) Turner, Jaime Turner and great grandchildren Taylor, Riley, Dylan, Nate, Nevaeh and Bailey and his sister-in-law, Shirley Noble of Middlebury, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother, Gordon Noble.

Since his retirement, he has enjoyed spending time with his family at his country home and at the Portage Lake house. He especially enjoyed doing yard work and spending time with his daughter Missy and helping with special needs bowlers at Blossom Lanes. His grandchildren and great grandchildren brought great joy and happiness to him.
