Lavena King Moore, March 28, 1907 – June 26, 2011.
Lavena (Nanny) King Moore, 104, of Lone Wolf, Oklahoma passed away June 26, 2011in Belton, Texas. Lavena was born March 28, 1907 in Causey, New Mexico territory to Robert and Frona King. She was the third of five siblings. In 1910 at three years of age, the family traveled by covered wagon to set up their homestead in Kiowa County around Lone Wolf, Oklahoma. She met Bob E. Moore at a church box supper. They were married February 25, 1925 at the Jackson County Court House.
They spent 61 wonderful years together during which they raised two boys, Bobby and Billy Moore. She lived through the Dust Bowl, the Great Depression, at least six wars and through 19 presidents. She was a great cotton picker and flower gardener. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bob, and son, Bobby. She is survived by her son and his wife, Bill and Barbara Moore of Venice, Florida; her grandchildren, Mike and Jane Moore of Belton, Texas; Alan and Rene Moore of Charlestown, Indiana; Guy Moore of Stillwater, Oklahoma; and David and Joan Moore of Indianapolis, Indiana.
Also left are Barbara’s two sons, Todd and Gregg Otterman of Indianapolis, Indiana. Nanny has six great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter. In addition she has Barb’s granddaughter and her two great great grandchildren. She was one of the original members of the First Baptist Church, and was a founding member of the Chrysanthemum Garden Club. At age 100 her birthday coincided with the Oklahoma Centennial, and she was asked to lead the parade in Kiowa County.
Lavena was also an avid Oklahoma Sooners fan. She and her husband were season ticket holders for 40 years. Her love, devotion and dedication to her family will forever be remembered. Her family and friends mourn her passing but celebrate and rejoice in her Christian life, legacy and victory. Memorial contributions can be made to First Baptist Church of Lone Wolf, Oklahoma.
